LiveCode in New York

Are you in or around New York for the next month or so? Join the app coding movement when Livecode brings #EveryoneCanCreateApps to communities throughout New York City. Events will be taking place from February 17 through March 9, 2015. The training sessions will include hands-on presentations and discussions about; coding and app development, small-business optimization, entrepreneurship, career-change and the huge job opportunities that remain unfilled for people with the technical coding skill set.

LiveCode Unconference

The whole series concludes with a special LiveCode "Unconference" with a keynote by Kevin Miller, and a day of talks by you, the users. There are rumours there could be an LC8 related announcement, with demo's of the new Widgets technology. If you can only make one session, this is the one you don't want to miss. Did I mention it was completely free? Come and join in the LiveCode Lovefest :).

Throughout the month there will be free live training, open to all at a range of venues in the city. Todd Fabacher will be leading some of the sessions, and he invites you to join him: "Anyone, regardless of age, gender, location or socio-economic class can learn to create an app. We spend most of our time using technologies, browsing, texting and gaming - so there is no better time than NOW to learn how to do it yourself."

NYC Small Business Solutions: March 5th. 9 John Street. 9am-6 pm.
"The business of apps"
We are teaming up with New York City @ NYC Small Business Center to talk about the business of apps. The mobile-apps industry is booming. App stores run by Apple and Google now offer more than 1,000,000 apps each. With so many apps to choose from, consumers are estimated to spend on average about two hours a day with apps. Global revenue from app stores is expected to rise 62% in to $35 billion in 2015.

Wall Street: March 6th. 60 Wall Street [in the Atrium] NY, NY. 10am-4 pm. "The business of apps"
What better place to talk about the business of apps then on Wall Street? The phenomenal success of the mobile devices has ushered in a "gold rush" for developers, but with well over 100,000 apps in the highly competitive App Store, it has become increasingly difficult for new apps to stand out in the crowd. Let us show you why LiveCode makes good business.

The Harlem YMCA: March 7th and 8th. 180 West 135th Street on March 7th and 8th. 10am-6pm. "Learn to code, job and internship opportunities"
Come see how Harlem is getting a tech-led makeover. We will be at the YMCA introducing coding and all of the possibilities that are available. We will be doing hands-on workshops and open discussions on how to use LiveCode.

Harlem Children's Zone: March 9th. 35 East 125th Street. 3 pm -
7 pm. "Learn to code, job and internship opportunities."
The Harlem Children's Zone has a simple goal—to give kids the individualized support they need to get into and through college, and become productive, self-sustaining adults. Realizing this goal is difficult, particularly since they work with over 12,000 youth, many of them with tough challenges. An important part of that future is technology and coding, and LiveCode will be there to help make the future even brighter.

LiveCode Unconference: March 12th. Freehold, Brooklyn, 10am - 5pm
Your collective knowledge is what makes this event worthwhile, so the first rule of Unconference is to contribute to Unconference. Giving a talk isn’t mandatory, but we encourage attendees to get involved by sharing a demo, planning a session, or just looking for ways to share their expertise. Before you get cold feet, know that you can do a talk on anything relating to LC. The venue has several speaking areas.

We would like to try and schedule the talks before the event, but if you want to just turn up with a talk, we will try to schedule you in. RSVP to this event and email events@livecode.com and let us know if you want to give a demo or prep a talk.

Keep up to date with all the events online here.

Excited? We are! See you in New York :)
