New Digital Marketing Assistant

Meet Jana Doughty, our new Digital Media Marketing Assistant. She has recently joined us from California and is getting stuck in to promoting LiveCode in Social Media. Jana studied at Syracuse University (NY) before working in NYC's Marketing Industry. Newly married to a Brit, Jana is now happily based in Edinburgh. In her spare time, Jana likes to run, bake, write, and watch films.

Tom Murel has just launched his first LiveCode app. I asked him to tell me a little about the process, and here is what he told me.

I am not a programmer. I have been a business owner, company president, and am now a pastor. In Jan 2013, I had decided to develop a mobile app for our church & researched a number of companies offering development services to churches. Due to the sizable upfront cost, ongoing fees, and minimal functionality offered, I decided to "develop my own" lol I stumbled on something called "Cordoba" and worked at that for a couple months. I was about to give up when I came across Livecode in late August, 2013.

I briefly tried the free "Community" version & quickly realized that Livecode was the answer I was looking for! I signed up for Livecode Commercial, which at that time included the "Idea2App" webinar series with Elanor. She did a great job teaching the basics of Livecode & my app was starting to take shape. There were a few times I needed extra help from Neil Roger, which he willing gave me. Then Neil made me aware of the "Pro" license which allowed me to get his assistance with questions & difficulties as I was trying to learn programming to accommodate both iOS and Android development. I quickly jumped on that idea in May, 2014. I kept peppering Neil with obvious & not so obvious questions. He graciously stayed right with me helping me all the way to the finish line!

The LifeTree Discipleship App was submitted & approved by Apple and Google Play at the end of October 2014. After completing all the initial content, we are unveiling it with the church on Nov 9, 2014. I still don't consider myself a true programmer, but have enjoyed learning Livecode! I am looking forward to continually improving our app with additional features and capabilities. I deeply appreciate the entire Livecode team because without them, I could never have accomplished this at all!
